Bangkok has been named the world’s top city for remote work, according to a new global ranking by QR Code Generator, a digital solutions firm.
The Thai capital ranked at the top of a recent global index, scoring 69.98 out of 100. The ranking evaluated over 80 cities worldwide based on factors critical to remote operations, including internet speed, cost of living, visa accessibility and overall quality of life.
For companies already based in Thailand or planning expansion, the recognition underscores Bangkok’s increasing value not just as a regional sales or operations base, but also as a remote-friendly headquarters. Fast mobile and broadband internet, abundant co-working spaces and a tech-savvy urban workforce make it easier to manage distributed teams or digital-first operations.
“The blend of modern infrastructure and affordable lifestyle creates a strong foundation for location-independent businesses,” said Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Watthanachan.
Bangkok also stands out for its affordable housing, low daily expenses and diverse work-friendly venues. From Wi-Fi-equipped cafes to serviced apartments with flexible leases, the city supports both short-term projects and long-term team setups.
To support this trend, the government has recently taken steps such as a visa-free entry policy that now covers 93 countries and territories, allowing stays of up to 60 days. Additionally, the new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) lets foreigners combine remote work with travel, or engage in cultural and medical activities over extended periods.
This simplifies logistics for small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs that need to host foreign consultants, rotate remote staff or build regional teams without the overhead of complex visa processes.
Other top-ranked cities included Bucharest, Romania, which came in second with a score of 65.62 and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which ranked third with a score of 62.35.
